As our clients' needs change we
change in order to provide the best quality of care and service for our
clients. This year we will be one of twenty homecare agencies
in NC participating in a
pilot program, "which aims to change the workplace to improve the
recruitment and retention of direct care workers" and ultimately provide
better jobs and better care".
To better serve our clients we have increased our professional
nursing staff. Our
search for qualified personal care assistants and nursing assistants is on going..
We
have also switched from a primarily manual system of record keeping
and tracking, to a completely
computerized system. For our clients' safety and ours Our House
conducts Criminal Background Investigations,
at the state and federal
level on all Our House employees.
Our House requires all direct care staff to be CPR certified. In
order to provide CPR certification and re-certification for our staff we have our own American Red
Cross certified Cardiopulmonary and Basic First Aid instructor.
The training our direct care staff
receives increases their ability to respond to emergency situations while
caring for our clients in their homes.
Under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse our
paraprofessional staff undergoes Our House's orientation and training
which includes: Our House policies and procedures, OSHA (explanation
of OSHA) and HIPPA (explanation
of HIPPA) rules
and regulations when hired and annually. Included in their training are
their job description, standard precautions, safety, privacy, and
confidentiality. In addition to the required training Our House
provides educational material for our paraprofessional staff on topics such
as hypertension, diabetes and basic safety techniques for the client as well
as the assistants' safety.
All direct care staff are required to maintain annual health requirements
i.e. TB testing or chest X-ray.
Our House education, hands on training and supervision equips our
paraprofessional staff to adequately carry out and assist our clients in
the areas of: personal care,
bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and ambulation. In addition to
Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) our paraprofessional
staff provides incidental housekeeping tasks, shopping, and assistance with
bill paying as needed.
It is our pleasure to extend you
an invitation to try Our House. The experience will be a pleasant and
memorable one, because we care with our hearts.
